Scobee Scholarship

The Scobee Scholarship was created in honor of Dick Scobee, the Commander of the Challenger Space Shuttle, and is awarded annually by the Florida Association for the Gifted (FLAG). Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. They will go to an eligible male and female gifted student, interested in pursuing studies in the areas of math/science/technology. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2009.  Postmark no later than midnight on May 15, 2008.  You must be in the 2010 graduating class. The application can be found here.

 

Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program

The Program
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program selects high-achieving youth in the 7th Grade with financial need and provides them with individualized educational opportunities and support that will enable them to develop their talents and abilities. The Foundation looks to award approximately 75 of these scholarships each year. The Young Scholars Program is one of the most individualized scholarships offered in the US.

Educational Opportunities
Previous Young Scholars have received the support and guidance required to

  • evaluate the suitability of their high school environment,

  • supplement their schooling with online courses,

  • select and attend summer academic or enrichment programs,

  • obtain computers, software, or other learning technology,

  • improve their musical, artistic, scientific, mathematical, or other skills,

  • benefit from the nationwide network of Young Scholars,

  • explore their career goals, and

  • select the college best suited to their talents and ambitions.

Each Young Scholar receives a unique combination of these and other opportunities.

2009 Davidson Fellows $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 Scholarships

Applications Now Available

The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary young people under the age of 18 who have completed a significant piece of work. The scholarship rewards students who create an individual project that is recognized as an outstanding accomplishment by experts in the field and has the potential to benefit society. The application categories are Science, Technology, Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy, and “Outside the Box” – graduate level work in any other field.

Davidson Fellows scholarship selection is based on the quality and level of significance of the work submitted, as well as the applicant’s understanding of the work and domain area.  The deadline to apply is March 4, 2009.  U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents age 17 and under are eligible; there is no minimum age to apply. Scholarship awards can be used at any accredited college or university for any major or field of study.
